Cost

Regular tuition for in person or webcast attendance for this program is USD645 with a group rate of USD485 each for two or more registrants from the same firm. For government employees, we offer a special rate of USD430. For students, people in their job for less than a year, and public interest NGO's, our rate is USD322.50. Wine and liquor industry professionals receive a rate of USD300. All rates include admission to all seminar sessions, food and beverages at breaks, and all course materials. Faculty Bios

Mark Hicken, Program Co-Chair, partner, Vintage Law Group, focuses on the wine and liquor industry. He advises on shipping compliance, operations risk/liability, LCLB licensing issues, LDB regulation, enforcement defence, license transfers, purchase/sale, import/export advice and export compliance/clearance for alcoholic beverage products.

Christopher S. Wilson, Program Co-Chair, partner, Bull, Housser & Tupper LLP, practices intellectual property law, including advising domestic and foreign wineries on branding, labeling and geographical indications of origin. His practice encompasses trade-mark litigation. He is a recognized leading lawyer in IP by Best Lawyers in Canada.

Albert J. Hudec, partner, Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP, focuses on wine law and corporate finance. He is recognized in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Dictionary.

Michael Welsh, Moderator, partner, Mott Welsh & Associates, focuses on alternative dispute resolution in the grape and wine industry. Previously, he was a commercial grape grower. He served as President, BC Grapegrowers Assoc., was a director of the BC Grape Marketing Board, and various committees of the BC Wine Institute committees. He is a BC VQA wine assessor, and writes for the Advocate magazine.

Jon Bell, President, BC Association of Farmers' Markets ("BCAFM"), is experienced with municipal to international government. BCAFM is involved throughout the consultation and implementation phases in making alcohol marketing a reality at Farmers' Markets.

Barry Bieller, Director, of Policy, Planning and Communications at the LCLB, oversees amendments to the Liquor Control and Licensing Act, Regulations and LCLB policies.

Michelle Bouffard is Co-Owner of House Wine, a wine consulting company based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Sid Cross, Honorary President of The International Wine & Food Society, London, UK, is a retired lawyer and now an active wine and food media person. He was the Director of and Wine Advisor to ICCBC (Italian Chamber of Commerce in BC). He is the only Canadian to be inducted as a Membre d'Honeur of L'Academie du Vin de Bourdeaux.

David Enns, is the Co-Proprietor and Winemaker at Laughing Stock Vineyards, a small production winery in the Okanagan Valley.

Leeann Froese, Owner, Town Hall Brands, works with Canada's wineries to market their distinction, strategizing and communicating on branding/designing labels and presentation, and generates publicity for her clients.

David Gooder, Managing Director and Chief Trademark Counsel, Jack Daniel's Properties, and Brown-Forman Corporation. He directs the company's global intellectual property work, rights clearance, brand protection, including anti-counterfeiting, licensing and entertainment deals for the brands.

Bert Hick, President and Founder, Rising Tide Consultants Ltd., provides liquor licensing consulting services to the hospitality industry, primarily in BC, and throughout Canada. He served with the BC Government as the Intergovernmental Relations Secretariat, Executive Director of the Cabinet Secretariat, Secretary to Cabinet and General Manager of the BC Liquor Control and Licensing Branch.

Tony Holler, Proprietor/President, Poplar Grove Winery, has years of experience in the BC wine industry, and has won many awards.

Quinton Jay, Managing Director of Bacchus Capital, is experienced in running both boutique artisanal and wineries, primarily the sales, operations and marketing teams of the Fund's Wine by Joe / Dobbes Family Estate, Panther Creek and Madrigal wineries. He also plays a significant role in Bacchus' marketing and business development.

Russell Lane, Principal, Lane Group Strategic Wealth Planning. He specializes primarily in the areas of executive compensation, business continuation and succession planning for the corporate owner.

Michael MacQuisten, Co-Founder and CEO of Fresh Tap Logistics, Inc., Canada's first custom wine keg packaging operation, which allows wineries access to the emerging wine-on-tap market. MacQuisten has recently expanded another arm of the business, called Direct Tap, to handle direct distribution of not only kegs, but also cased goods for BC liquor manufacturers throughout the province.

Kate S. Marples, attorney, Legacy Tax & Trust Lawyers, focuses on personal and corporate tax planning, corporate reorganizations and estate planning.

Michaela Morris is Co-Owner of House Wine, a wine consulting company based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Jack H. Segal, Managing Director, The Seacove Group Inc. is a premium wine and spirit import, sales and marketing company in Canada.

Mark von Schellwitz is Vice President for Western Canada of Restaurants Canada.

Randy Wilson is Co-Founder and Partner of Liquor Plus. He is also the Board Chair of BC Private Liquor Association, and has spoken to various media outlets on the issue of liquor retail. He is the former host of CFAX 1070 Radio "Wine Talk".

Mario Zepponi, Principal, Zepponi & Company, is experienced in performing valuations and negotiating and structuring purchase, sale and lease transactions.
