This is a timely program because local governments are struggling to fit an increasingly dynamic industry into increasingly outdated local regulatory and planning structures. In addition to dealing with the burden of finding space for new facilities, both local governemnts and local business leaders will need new strategies to take advantage of the opportunities the Act has created. Progressive local officials and real estate managers/developers are discovering that efficient access to a variety of sophisticated new services has become vital for attracting information-oriented businesses to the community. In some cases, the local community may want to directly ensure, by constructing its own facilites, that it has the telecommunications infrastructure it will need to remain competitive in the Information Age. Successful strategies will take thought and current information about available options. This program will provide local governments, progressive real estate firms, and other key local players with the information they need to develop those strategies.
