Steve Tapia, Program Co-Chair, is a corporate attorney at Microsoft Corporation. He supports MSNBC Interact, The Microsoft Network, Slate Magazine, Hotmail, and the Corporate Marketing Group.

Holly K. Towle, Program Co-Chair, is a member of Preston Gates & Ellis LLP's Technology and Intellectual Property Department and counsels financial institutions and commercial vendors on a wide variety of issues and transactions. Her combined background in financial institutions, commercial law and intellectual property has created her current practice focus on electronic commerce. Ms. Towle is included in An International Who's Who of Internet and E-commerce Lawyers.

Raymond T. Nimmer, Keynote Address, is currently Leonard Childs Professor at the University of Houston Law Center and Co-Director of the Houston Intellectual Property and Information Law Program. He is the Reporter to the Drafting Committee on Uniform Commercial Code Article 2B-Licenses, and he serves as a consultant to the Office of the Legal Advisor of the U. S. State Department. He is the author of The Law of Computer Technology and Information Law.

Deborah K. Owen, Kick-off Address, is Senior Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. A former FTC Commissioner and Associate Counsel to the President of the United States, Ms. Owen was in private practice concentrating on antitrust and consumer protection law, legislative representation and Internet legal issues prior to joining Armstrong.

David A. Zapolsky, Special Address, is Associate General Counsel for Litigation at Amazon. com. He manages a broad portfolio of domestic and international litigation and regulatory matters for the company. He has also advised the company on labor and employment law issues. Before joining Amazon. com, Mr. Zapolsky was a litigation partner at Dorsey & Whitney and Bogle & Gates.

Ian C. Ballon is with the firm of Manatt Phelps & Phillips, LLP, where he concentrates his practice on intellectual property and Internet-related litigation and strategic counseling. A member of the Internet Society and the International Computer Security Association, he is the author of E-Commerce and Internet Law: Forms-Text-Cases published by Glasser Legal Works.

Brian D. Bellardo is Senior Vice President and General Counsel at StockPower, Inc., a privately held Internet company that helps retailers build customer loyalty by putting stock into customer's hands entirely over the Internet. Before joining StockPower, he was Vice President and Associate General Counsel with Charles Schwab & Co., Inc.

Lorin Brennan is a principal in the software firm, Gray Matter, LLC, which is developing automated contracting tools and database programs to create and track licenses of rights in motion pictures. Mr. Brennan was previously Vice President, Business Affairs, Carolco Pictures and President of the Independent Producers Association.

Jeff C. Dodd is a partner at Mayor, Day, Caldwell & Keeton, LLP, where for the past several years most of his business includes advising clients in developing e-commerce strategies. Mr. Dodd is a frequent author on information law, intellectual property law and e-commerce and teaches a licensing class at the University of Houston Law Center with Raymond Nimmer.

Ronald H. Gertz is President and Founder of Music Reports, Inc., a provider of "per program" and "direct" music licensing services to broadcasters in the U. S. Mr. Gertz is a copyright attorney whose legal practice began with the representation of clients in the television, publishing and recording fields.

Edward F. Glynn, Jr., a partner at Venable Baetjer Howard & Civiletti, LLP, who practices advertising law and trade regulation. He spent 14 years at the Federal Trade Commission and is Chairman of the Consumer Protection Committee of the Antitrust Section of the American Bar Association.

Linda A. Goldstein is partner-in-charge of Hall Dickler Kent Goldstein & Wood, LLP's Advertising, Marketing and Media Department and represents clients in every sector of the advertising and marketing industry. Ms. Goldstein regularly counsels marketers on how to structure sweepstakes, games and contests and is Chair Emeritus of the Promotion Marketing Association.

Robert W. Gomulkiewicz is an Associate General Counsel at Microsoft Corporation. Mr. Gomulkiewicz's practice focuses on software licensing and providing advice on copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property protection issues. Mr. Gomulkiewicz manages the legal team supporting development of Microsoft products such as Windows, Office, BackOffice, and VisualBasic.

John Hancock is of counsel to Fenwick & West LLP, where he is a member of the Licensing and Online Commerce practice group, emphasizing the financial and payment system aspects of online commerce and the rapidly evolving area of privacy. Before joining Fenwick & West, Mr. Hancock was an in-house attorney for eighteen years with three different banks, including six years as General Counsel to Citibank, CA.

Jeffrey E. Harmes is Chair of the Intellectual Property and Technology Group in Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich, LLP's Seattle office. He has extensive experience in the protection and commercialization of intellectual property, including negotiating license agreements and distribution agreements for electronic commerce.

Bruce E. H. Johnson is a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP where his practice includes constitutional and commercial litigation, defamation defense, and professional liability. He is co-author of the upcoming PLI volume entitled Advertising and Commercial Speech: First Amendment Guide and also serves as the Chair of the firm's ethics committee.

David Mishel is a partner at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart, LLP, and has extensive experience in Internet securities trading and capital raising issues. He represents several broker-dealers (or securities brokerage firms) conducting Online trading, public offerings and private placements.

Alex Modelski practices business and technology law at Business & Technology Law where he represents Internet and high tech start-ups. Previously Mr. Modelski served as corporate counsel for Texas Instruments Incorporated and managing partner of Hamilton & Modelski, P. C.

Mark Traphagen is a partner at Powell, Goldstein Frazer & Murphy LLP. Before joining Powell Goldstein, he spent five years as Vice President and Counsel for the Software Publishers Association. He represented the association in the 1996 diplomatic conference that led to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Copyright Treaty and in negotiating important provisions for the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Robert D. Young is a forensic software analyst and managing consultant for Johnson-Laird, Inc., where he specializes in the analysis of computer-based evidence for criminal, copyright, patent and trade secret litigation. He has over 24 years of experience in the computer industry and is an expert in computer development, data recovery, and computer system security issues.
